3 new casinos are to open their doors to players in the USA: a casino in Lewiston and 2 racinos in Biddeford and Washington County. The supporters of Oxford casino (currently under construction) have organized a mass mailing, in which they claim that K-12 education can suffer from these new institutions.
Oxford casino generates $25million annually for k-12 funding for Maine Schools as a part of its revenue plan, but the launch of new casinos can mean less visitors and less money for Oxford casino and will lead to the decrease of K-12 funding in Maine.
The opponents of Oxford casino say that the state can use the revenue of new casinos in the way they like, as the use of the funds generated by the casinos is determined by the Maine Legislature.
The representatives of Biddeford casino announced that it'll generate $32.9 million dollars for the General Fund and the bigger part of this money will go to K-12. Still, the supporters of Oxford casino maintain that the construction of so many casinos in a small geographic area can lead to tax-generated results and the worsening of k-12 funding.
